Typical Music Magazine Conventions;

Complete Audience Feedback

Here is a complete audience feedback on ideas (with times next to task) about;
  • Preliminary Task - 00:00
  • Articles - 01:30
  • Cover Lines - 03:11
  • Fonts - 05:15
  • Layout - 07:02
  • Pictures on Front Cover, Contents Page and Double Page Spread - 08:34
  • Final Product DRAFT - 11:12
  • Ultimate Final Product - 13:47
Audience feedback has massively helped me to see mistakes and errors I have made. As you can see from my preliminary task to my 1st draft to my final product, there have been a lot of amendments thanks to the public. And I for one much rather prefer my final product than my 1st draft. The use of audience feedback has also forced me to use photoshop to improve not just my work but also my technical photoshop skills.

Final Magazine Product

Here is my magazine which I made in photoshop. I have used all of the audience feedback to make changes and let my magazine really connect with the audience.

Front Cover, Contents Page and Double Page Spread Draft 1

Here is my first draft for my front cover. I personally believe that there is more to be done due to the background being too bland. My audience feedback will tell me if I need to change anymore. The use of making a draft is to find out if your product will work in the eyes of the consumer, if needed I will change things.

Possible Fonts And Colours For My Magazine Name

Here are a few possible fonts that could be used for the title of my magazine. In doing this task I have I have learnt that font size, styles and colours can conveys concepts to the consumer. I want to make my concept, to the consumer, seem very insightful and interesting and yet confidential as the consumer will hear of things no-one else will have heard in terms of house artist rumours. To convey this message I have chosen to display the word 'TRACK' in a Pink and Purple font colour as it stimulates passion, this will be effective because the audience will feel intrigued by the use of this colour. I have also chosen to use the top left font on the picture below as it looks interesting to the naked eye and it also looks like something is locked up, almost exclusive. Again to create a sense of curiosity.

Possible Pictures For Front Cover, Content Page And Double Page Spread

Here are a few possible ideas for pictures to be used in my front cover, contents page and double page spread. In doing this task I have learnt a lot about the different camera angles to convey the status and class of the person. E.g. In the first picture below, I have used a slightly low angle shot to show the higher status character, and in effect making the consumer want to be like the person in the picture.
Also the use of the plain background was to make editing on photoshop easier, I learnt this the hard way as in my preliminary task I was unable to use some pictures as they were difficult to edit.

Possible Article Ideas

Here are some brief ideas concerning the topics I will be writting about in my double page spread. Thinking of these ideas has helped me to understand further what the importance of an article is, and this task has also helped me to recognise the type of magazine I will be creating. E.g. Review magazine, Gossip magazine. My next post will be an audience feedback video which will help me decide which article to write.

Possible Layout Ideas For My Final Product

Here are a few ideas I had for the layout of my magazine. In doing this task I researched various music magazine layouts through the likes of "Q", "kerrang" etc...

From this task I have learnt how a magazine conveys its message to consumers in its front cover page, e.g. bigger pictures attract the attention of a younger audience.

After showing these designs to people included in my target market of ages 15-35, I have come to the conclusion that I will use the bottom layout for my final magazine. This is because it was the most popular in terms of it fitting my target market.

Possible Cover Lines For My Front Cover

Here are some of the possible cover lines that will be used in my front cover. In doing this task and in my previous knowledge, I have learnt that cover lines are what draws a reader in to read your product and so i tried to make it more appealing towards the consumer e.g. "win tickets to see Avicii live at tomorrowland!". This will help me to get my audience involved in the magazine and not just feel like they're reading it. It will also give me a chance to get new audience members and subscriptions (If I choose that means of distribution) in the long term.

Music Magazines Names Survey

This is a video to present the preferences of my target audience with regards to naming  the magazine. This will help me a lot in branding my magazine. The name "TRACK" was chosen because it was short, snappy and most preferred. Take a look and see if you agree!
